There is a silver lining in all of this, though–self-quarantine forces us to slow down, so it’s the perfect opportunity for you to take care of yourself. You can lower stress, improve your immunity system, and stay healthier by incorporating a few positive habits in your daily life. These are 10 ways to improve your overall health at home.

  • Get enough sleep each night.

Adults should sleep an average of seven to nine hours per night. How you feel throughout the day can tell you how much sleep you need. If you cannot get enough sleep, likely, you don’t have enough. Although you may have to change your sleeping schedule to get enough sleep, you will feel better if you do. Regular sleep helps you feel better and improves your immune system. This will help you to stay healthy throughout the year.

  • Get active every day.

There are many benefits to exercising. It improves your physical health, helps you keep a healthy weight and lowers your risk of developing health problems in the future. It has been shown to improve your mental health and strengthen your immune system. You don’t have to go to the gym right away, but you could do a quick run or yoga at home.

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle

A balanced, healthy diet with a good balance of proteins, grains, dairy and fruits and vegetables will help you keep your daily calories down while ensuring you get all the nutrients you need. While you don’t need to stop eating sweets, limiting your intake and focusing on healthy meals and snacks will make you more energetic and improve your overall health. This will allow your body to perform at its best.

  • Relax.

Although it may sound absurd, high levels of stress can harm your mental health and immune system. Relaxing and reducing stress can make you feel more positive mentally and physically. You can reduce the risk of getting sick by touching only what you need, keeping your hands covered, using your sleeves instead of your naked hands and not touching your face when you go out for work or grocery shopping. While hand sanitizer can be a useful tool for when you are out and about, it is not the best way to go. It’s better to use soap and water to wash your hands whenever you can.

Water is healthy and low in calories. However, soda, coffee, tea and other beverages can increase your risk of weight gain. These drinks often contain caffeine which can be a diuretic and not keep you hydrated. These drinks can be consumed throughout the day, giving bacteria in your mouth an endless supply of food. This makes your gums and teeth more susceptible to decay. Drinking half a gallon per day of water can help you stay hydrated and maintain your oral health.

  • Socialize in new ways

It cannot be easy to socialize when your life is full of work, errands and other obligations. This can lead to isolation and loneliness. You can make sure to spend some of your free time socializing with family and friends. You can even socialize with friends and family, even if you live alone.

  • Unplug technology

With your phone always buzzing and all the news coverage, it can be hard to relax. It can be refreshing to read, watch TV, or paint without worrying about being distracted by texts or notifications.

  • Take good care of your dental health.
